Clo Insulation

Following a rigorous programme of testing, Clo Insulation partnered with Sioen to develop a high-performance insulated jacket for military personnel operating in mountainous environments.

Sioen specialises in technical textiles and protective clothing for professionals working in demanding and high-risk conditions. Its military range includes garments and protective equipment designed around performance, durability and wearer comfort.

Military personnel in mountainous regions may regularly alternate between static duties and periods of intense physical activity. This makes thermal regulation especially challenging: a garment must retain warmth during inactivity while allowing excess heat and moisture to escape during periods of exertion.

To achieve this balance, the jacket uses body-mapped perforated insulation, with different insulation weights positioned across specific areas of the body. This provides targeted warmth where it is needed most while improving breathability and helping maintain a consistent level of thermal comfort.

The jacket’s other components were also carefully selected for performance. A high-quality monocomponent PTFE membrane provides breathable protection from precipitation, while a lightweight Coolmax® mesh lining helps manage moisture and dries quickly next to the body.

By combining Sioen’s experience in professional protective clothing with Clo’s advanced insulation technology, the collaboration produced a jacket designed to offer warmth, breathability and weather protection without unnecessarily restricting movement.

The result is a versatile cold-weather garment that can help military users remain comfortable and effective for longer while operating in harsh and rapidly changing mountain conditions.
